David Haus earned his B.A. in American Studies from Penn State University, and he is a graduate of the Schreyer Honors College at Penn State. He earned his M.A. in American Culture Studies from Bowling Green State University, focusing on Early American History and Culture. He earned his Ph.D. in History at Bowling Green State University, focusing on 20th Century U.S. Policy History. He has minor fields in Latin American History and the History of Modern Japan.

Before coming to Husson David served as an Instructor of History and Distance Learning at Bowling Green State University and Assistant Professor of History at Bluefield State College. He has held several administrative posts during his career including Faculty Senate Chair, Associate Dean of Assessment and Distance Learning, and Dean of Arts and Sciences. He serves as a Social Studies education program Curriculum Reviewer for the West Virginia Department of Education and a certified Quality Matters reviewer. He is the co-founder and former editor of H-Policy. David designed and continues to offer his Social Studies Content Licensure preparation seminars to teacher education students at several institutions in the United States. The program is designed to help students prepare for exams such as the Praxis II: Social Studies Content Exam offered by ETS.

David is currently working on his scholarly monograph "Radio Is an Extension of the Home: Protecting Private Space from Public Vulgarity, 1929-1935". It re-examines the public debate between commercial interests and educational reformers over the organization and control of radio in the early 1930s. Other scholars have explored this moment in American history, arguing that the National Committee on Education by Radio stood little chance for success because of its own ineptitude before a powerful commercial radio industry. My work attempts to make sense of the NCER’s choices and motivations in the struggle for educational radio while examining the broader implications of the NCER’s arguments on our understanding of New Deal politics, associationalism, gender, and consumerism. I conclude that the NCER was a progressive group that watched the very progressive machinery its members once supported quash its campaign for radio reform and alter its conception of democracy, as federal regulators devalued its expertise and sacrificed educational radio at the altar of the New Deal. However, I contend that the NCER posed a greater threat to the commercial industry than other scholars have found, and it could have succeeded under different circumstances. The NCER fought against the conflation of consumerism and democracy while fighting to stave off what it saw as cultural domination by the East coast, and it compels us to rethink the nature and periodization of progressivism and the centrality of radio in the context of urban-rural conflict of the 1920s and 1930s.

Dr. Derek Hoelz joined Husson University School of Pharmacy as an Assistant Professor of Pharmacology in August, 2012. He earned a B.A. in Biology from Kent State University and a Ph.D. in Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics from the University of Maryland School of Medicine. Dr. Hoelz completed postdoctoral training in the Division of Hematology and Oncology at Indiana University School of Medicine.

After his postdoctoral training Dr. Hoelz transitioned into his first faculty position at Indiana University School of Medicine, during which time he co-founded a biotechnology company (CS-Keys, Inc.), which sought to develop more effective cancer diagnostics. In 2009, Dr. Hoelz joined the Maine Institute for Human Genetics and Health as a staff Scientist where he led a successful research laboratory investigating novel anticancer drug targets. Dr. Hoelz has been awarded numerous patents for his research, has authored several research articles, and has been awarded multiple research grants.

Christine has been an occupational therapist for 20 years, beginning in MA and then moving to ME in 1993. Her clinical practice includes pediatrics and psychiatry. Hubbard had the opportunity to begin her teaching career at KVCC in the OTA program. She then spent some time teaching at Lewiston Auburn College, USM. Christine joined the Husson Occupational Therapy faculty in September 2006 to teach pediatrics. She lives with her husband, 2 children, and 5 horses southwest of Bangor.

I joined the faculty at Husson because I have found it to be an exciting and dynamic environment where students and faculty learn and develop together.

Dr. Jarvi was appointed Associate Dean of the Husson School of Pharmacy beginning in June, 2008. Eric earned a Bachelor of Science in Health Care Services from Southern Illinois University in 1979, a Masters in Forensic Science from George Washington University in 1981, and a Ph.D. in Pharmacology/Toxicology from Oregon State University in 1985.

From 1985 to 1989, he was Assistant Professor and Manager of the Drug Research Laboratory in the College of Pharmacy at the University of Tennessee, Memphis. From 1990 to 2002 he was Associate Professor/Professor and Director of the Biopharmaceutical Analysis Laboratory in the College of Pharmacy at Idaho State University. From 2002 to 2008 he served as Assistant Dean and Department Head of Pharmaceutical Sciences in the College of Pharmacy at Ferris State University.

His research career has resulted in excess of $3 million in extramural funding and his (co)authoring 33 abstracts, seven invited presentations, and 24 publications.

He received the ISU Alumni Association OAS Influential Professor Award (1994, 1996, 1999, 2001) and was named College of Pharmacy Teacher of the Year (1997, 1999). He has also received the ISU Outstanding Public Service Award (1997, 1999) and was honored with the Sigma Xi Jerry Bigelow Award for Teaching and Research in 2000.

Eric is very active in soccer serving for many years as a coach, holding a National Youth License, and for the last 10 years as a certified official at both the high school and club level. He was recognized in 2001 as the Coach of the Year in Idaho and in 2005 received an award as Volunteer of the Year for the Michigan State Youth Soccer Association. Outside of soccer he enjoys playing racquetball, fishing, and backpacking.

I believe there is a place for the traditional didactic lecture. However, the rapid growth in our subject areas, the innovations in teaching methods, and the need to inculcate life-long learning and critical thinking skills in our students necessitates the use of more innovative approaches to pharmacy education. I also value scholarship and the dissemination of that scholarship in a peer-reviewed forum as a vital component of effective teaching.

Kenneth B. Johnson received his B.S. from Ferrum College in Virginia. At Ferrum, Ken studied Environmental Science and Chemistry. He then went on to receive his M.S. from the University of Maine, Orono in Ecology and Environmental Science with a concentration in Water Resources. Before becoming an instructor at Husson, Ken lived the life of a researcher splitting his time between the lab and being out in the field. His studies have special interest in the watersheds of Acadia National Park, specifically the impact of mercury and methylmercury on the aquatic environment.

Lambros has a Bachelor of Arts from Merrimack College, Master of Arts from the University of Texas, and Doctor of Education from University of Maine at Orono. A Licensed Psychologist and a Certified Health Service Provider in Psychology, Lambros chaired the Psychology Department at Husson and coordinated the Minors Programs in Psychology and Behavioral Sciences.

Paul Kinlaw earned his Sc.B in mathematics at Brown University. He then earned his M.A. and Ph.D. in mathematics at Dartmouth College, where he studied geometry/topology and did research in Lorentzian geometry under Vladimir Chernov. His thesis, “Refocusing of Null-Geodesics in Lorentz Manifolds” considers the relationships between several definitions of refocusing of null-geodesics, which represent light rays, in a Lorentz manifold, a mathematical model for space-time, which is used in General Relativity. His publications include a joint paper with Chernov and Sadykov called “Topological Properties of Manifolds admitting a Y^x_l Riemannian metric”. Additionally, his paper “Refocusing of Light-Rays in Space-Time”, was recently accepted for publication by the Journal of Mathematical Physics.

Sharon J. Kobritz has joined the English Department, where she previously taught as an adjunct. Sharon received her Bachelor's Degree in Management from Boston University and began working on her Master's Degree in English and American Literature and Language at Harvard's Continuing Education. School. After many years of working in the financial industry in Boston, she returned to her hometown of Bangor and received a Master's Degree in Liberal Studies with a major in English from the University of Maine. As a freelance writer, Sharon has traveled extensively and enjoys exploring and writing about international cultures.

Dr. Lane is definitely a local, a twelfth generation Mainer. On the way to Husson each morning he passes the one-room schoolhouse where his education began a half century ago. "You can't get to town from my house without passing by the old school", he says. "Each day it reminds me that education has empowered my life, providing tools and skills to make my way in the world." After graduating from Hampden Academy in 1969, Ken chose math as his undergraduate major at UMPI because he "hadn't decided on a profession". Graduate degrees in mathematics from Idaho State University allowed him to "postpone the decision indefinitely". Prior to joining the Husson faculty he spent a decade solving technical problems in support of space launch activities at Cape Canaveral, Florida, serving as Senior Technical Advisor for Computer Sciences Raytheon and operating a private consultancy. During the 1980s he was an Assistant Professor of Mathematics at Hamilton College and later at Colby College. He held a Sloan Fellowship and Visiting Assistant Professorship at Harvey Mudd College, and was an Associate Professor of Mathematics, Physics and Computer Science at UMPI. He lists his early academic interests as mathematical ecology, algebraic graph theory, computational complexity, and computer algebra. More recent interests include public safety communications, local history and genealogy, software development methodology, systems modeling and simulation, and trajectory reconstruction. Ken and his wife Alice Jean share five adult children (four Husson grads) and several grandchildren, as well as a passion for the future of Husson and its students.

My goal is to provide a positive experience that enhances each student's relationship with mathematics, empowering them by cultivating their capacities to leverage quantitative perspectives as citizens, practitioners and scholars. I enjoy helping students overcome the fear and anxiety that often impedes success in mathematics. Among all of the exciting and fulfilling experiences I have enjoyed as a result of my education, teaching at Husson is the most challenging and rewarding experience yet.

Pharmacy education has been a major focus of Dr. Lindblad's professional activities for a number of years, and he looks forward to bringing this experience to the new School of Pharmacy at Husson University. Dr. Lindblad received a B.S. degree in Chemistry at the University of Maine followed by an M.S. degree, also in Chemistry, from Cleveland State University. His doctoral degree in Pharmacology & Toxicology was obtained at the University of Rhode Island before moving south of the Mason-Dixon Line for a post-doctoral position at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond.

Dr. Lindblad's first academic position was in the Department of Surgery at the Medical College of Virginia where he developed his interest in translational biomedical research. He then went on to positions in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the Eugene Applebaum College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences at Wayne State University, Detroit, Michigan and the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in Boston. In addition to these academic appointments, Dr. Lindblad was the Founding Co-Editor and Editor-in-Chief of the biomedical journal Wound Repair and Regeneration for 15 years.

Along with a wealth of teaching experience, he is an established investigator in the area of dermal tissue injury, repair and regeneration. Over the past 25 years, he has received numerous grants and contracts from the National Institutes of Health and private corporations to support this research. Recently these studies have focused on impaired healing in individuals with diabetes. These studies lead to the development of a novel wound healing device that uses human cells to modify the wound environment in dermal ulcers that are recalcitrant to other treatments. This work subsequently lead to the formation of a start-up biotechnology company - Keracure, Inc.

The pharmacy profession is moving into the realm of advanced biotherapeutics. Developments in pharmacogenomics, gene therapy, and stem cells give the profession the opportunity to participate in individualized or personalized medicine. While there will be many opportunities for our pharmacy graduates, they will need to acquire new skills and knowledge that will challenge the traditional concept of the profession. This will provide them with rewarding careers helping to not only treat, but cure patients, with a variety of debilitating chronic diseases. I see my role as a facilitator for the students to learn and apply this knowledge.
