Traditional Admission requirements for Graduate Nursing
To be admitted to the master of science in nursing program, an applicant must have received a B.S.N. from an accredited institution and show promise of ability and motivation to pursue graduate-level study, as evidenced by achievement of at least a 3.0 GPA in B.S.N. and completion of undergraduate health assessment and statistics courses. (Additional option available for nurses with a non-nursing BA/BS degree.)
In addition, a minimum of one year of professional clinical nursing practice is required with additional experience strongly recommended.
The Graduate Program Admissions Committee makes admission decisions based on the following factors:
Previous college or university work.
Score on the Miller Analogies Test (MAT) or Graduate Record Examination (GRE).
Three letters of recommendation.
A personal interview with a graduate nursing faculty member of the School of Health.
The committee makes its determination based on a composite of factors and is aware that one factor alone may not reflect an applicant's true potential.
Registering as a "special student" allows you to begin your advanced education or to brush up on your skills without committing to a specific program track.
To register as a graduate special student, we will need to have the following:
A transcript verifying your bachelor's degree (official or unofficial)
A letter from your current graduate program verifying your graduate status (if applicable).
A completed registration form.
A $50.00 tuition deposit (check or money order)
As a special student, you may take up to nine credit hours prior to completing the application process. Some courses are unavailable to the general public and others may require advisor approval prior to registration. We strongly recommend that you discuss your particular academic situation and goals before registering for a course.
