The Housing and Residential Life Department (HRLD) serves approximately 1100 students housed in three (3) traditional residence halls and our newest residence hall – Living and Learning Center – which opens in August, 2012. The residence halls provide an array of living experiences including traditional setting, suite-style setting, and co-ed. The Resident Director position is an integral part of the HRLD Team and the Division of Student Affairs. A Resident Director is responsible for assisting with creating and maintaining a positive, student-centered community within the residence halls. This includes the establishment of programs and services which foster respect, dignity, collegiality and civility among residential students, in unison with the ethics and spirit of the College’s Mission. Furthermore, the Resident Director supervises and mentors as many as 9 Resident Assistants within a residential area of approximately 300 students.
Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
•Manage all residence hall operations within his/her assigned area including, but not limited to, student programming, housing assignments/room changes, key inventory, damage billing, check-in/check out, maintenance/housekeeping requests, lounge/room furniture inventory and coordination of replacements/repairs; and Health and Safety Inspections
•Serve as a judicial hearing officer
•Assist with the coordination of summer camps and conferences.
•Work closely with other offices and establish appropriate relationships with students, staff, and faculty
•Participate in the On-Call duty rotation
•Participate in Student Affairs and Campus Wide Events (i.e., Orientation, Family Day, Founders’ Day, Homecoming, Pride and Polish, Commencement, and Fall Convocation)
•Serve on Departmental and/or Campus Wide Committees
•Participate/Oversee various Central Office functions including, but not limited to, RA Selection, RA Training, Housing Assignment Process, Social Media Outreach, Student Program Development, Service Learning, and specified Central Office hours
•Provide/Utilize conflict resolution/crisis management skills
This position is a full-time, 12 month live-in position and reports to the Director of Housing. It requires a Bachelor’s Degree (Master’s degree strongly preferred) and a minimum of two years experience in residence life/student affairs or related field. Experience with data management, Microsoft Office applications, and staff supervision is beneficial. Strong organizational/management skills and an ability to adapt and respond to changing needs of students and the University is necessary. A background check is required for employment.
