Database Technician

Working closely with the Database Administrator and other IRO team members, the Database Technician oversees day-to-day operations for the CAMS administrative computing system, PowerFAIDS financial aid system, and other SQL Server applications used at Husson.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Researches and installs routine SQL server service packs and application updates as approved by the DBA
• Monitors CAMS and SQL server and software performance and speed
• Oversees daily management of database backup and disaster recovery systems for relevant CAMS and other SQL-related data
• Assists the DBA in the development and completion of selected database projects
• Performs related duties as assigned

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Acts as a functional backup to the DBA
• Receives, assesses and assigns database-related help tickets, resolves routine database issues
• Creates and maintains data-driven reports using products such as Crystal Reports
• Assists the DBA to develop documentation and training for all relevant database systems

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science with two or more years of related database experience.

KNOWLEDGE OF:
o Database structure and design principles
o SQL server configuration and management, up to version 2008
o Basic network protocols, applications and standards
o Word processor and spreadsheet software

ABILITY TO:
o Plan and organize work
o Maintain records and equipment inventories
o Meet schedules and time lines
o Prepare reports for administration
o Establish & maintain cooperative, effective working relationships with others
o Communicate effectively, both written and orally; use interpersonal skills requiring tact, patience, courtesy and a customer service orientation
o Work independently with minimal direction
