Have you recently gotten married, celebrated an anniversary, welcomed a child or grandchild to the family, started a new job, retired, or won an award? Let us know about your latest life accomplishments by submitting a Class Note for the next edition of The Ledger. Simply fill out the form below.

If you would like to include an image, please email us. For a quality reproduction of your image in The Ledger, we suggest the image have a resolution of 300 dpi.

Please review the examples below and be sure to include all relevant information. 

What should I include?

To help you determine what information to include in your note, check the samples below. Announcements of engagements and pregnancies are not included in the Ledger; however, we will gladly announce marriages and births.

Marriages

  • Spouse’s first and last name
  • Spouse’s class year, if applicable.
  • Month, day, and year of marriage.
  • Alumni who attended (optional).

Example: Fran (Tracy) Dunn ’99 and Ryan Dunn were married on May 29, 2010 in Calais, Maine, and now reside in Portland. Fran is a real estate appraiser for DAS in Scarborough and Ryan is a radar tech for the FAA at the Portland Jet Port.

 Births

  • Spouse’s first and last name.
  • Spouse’s class year, if applicable.
  • Child’s first and middle name.
  • Month, day, and year of birth.
  • Sibling(s) name(s) and age(s).

Example: Garth Danielson, ’03, and his wife, Amanda, are pleased to announce the birth of their daughter, Karolina Chase Danielson. She was born on December 15, 2011 at 8 lbs 7 oz and 22 inches long. Danielson works as a traveling physical therapist and currently resides in Nashua, NH.

General Announcement

Example: Kimberly Smith, ’08, secretary/ treasurer of Presque Isle Historical Society, delivered a presentation on the Bloodless Aroostook War on September 15, 2011, on the University of Maine Fort Kent campus as part of the preparations for the 2014 World Acadian Congress. Smith was Presque Isle Citizen of the Year in 2009, earned the Gold Level Award from the President’s Council on Civic Participation for several years running, and is listed in several “Who’s Who” MENSA directories. She is adjunct professor at Husson, the University of Maine at Presque Isle and Northern Maine Community College.

Education

  • Full name of school.
  • Degree and field of study.
  • Month and year degree conferred.

Example:  Air National Guard 1st Class Timothy A. Nason, ’07, graduated from Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas where he earned four credits toward an applied science degree through the community college of the Air Force. 

Awards/Honors

  • Full name and class year
  • Award/honor title
  • Please supply an press release, if applicable


Example: Philip Laine, ’80, recently received the Employee Recognition Career Service award in recognition of 30 years of valuable service to the State of Maine. He has served for 22 years with the Bureau of Alcoholic Beverages and eight years with the Department of Motor Vehicles.

Employment

  • Full title
  • Employer name
  • If new position, explain the responsibilities
  • If retired, summarize career history


Example: Beth Bouchard Gibbs ΚΛ ’80, MSB has been promoted to senior vice president at Thomas College. Beth joined Thomas in 1989 as the business manager/personnel manager, and was promoted to treasurer/director in 1993 and then to vice president for financial affairs/treasurer in 1996. She has served as the treasurer for the Central Maine Growth Council since 2007, has been a member of College and University Professional Association for Human Resources and the National Association of College and University Business Officers since 1989, a member of the Society of Human Resource Management since 1998 and has served on the Mid-Maine Chamber of Commerce, Board of Directors since 1997. Beth lives in Winslow with her daughter, Sara, who is an elementary education major at Thomas.


Philippe Jean-Jacques Lagesse, ’76, recently retired to Mauritius after 29 years of self-employment in South Africa. He has two daughters and three grandchildren
