The 2024 Commencement Ceremony will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2024, beginning at 10:30 a.m. at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor.

This information is published by the Commencement Committee to help answer any questions you might have about your commencement. After you read this, if you still have questions, please call Gretchen Schaefer at (207) 941-7152 or email schaeferg@husson.edu.

The two main events are the commencement and graduate academic hooding. The commencement is for all graduates, regardless of what degree you have earned. The academic hooding ceremony is for people receiving a Master or Doctoral degree.

For those reserving accommodations before and after the ceremony, we encourage you to book early! Space is limited and filling fast. Follow this link for partner hotels offering discounts for Husson families.

 

Ceremonies

Graduation
The Husson University Commencement will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2024, beginning at 10:30 a.m. Doors to the facility will open for guests at 8:30 a.m. The ceremony will be held at Cross Insurance Center at 515 Main Street in Bangor. You will be directed where to line up when you arrive at the facility. Students should arrive at the Cross Insurance Center at 9:00 a.m. Tickets for your guests are NOT required. Early arrival is recommended to avoid traffic congestion and to obtain choice seating. All guests to the Cross Insurance Center are subject to the venue’s security policy.

The ceremony is expected to last approximately 2.5 hours.

Graduate Hooding Ceremony
To recognize the significance of receiving your graduate degree from Husson University, the University will hold a Graduate Hooding Ceremony on Friday, May 3, at 7:00 p.m. in the Newman Gymnasium on the Bangor campus. The gymnasium will open for guests at 5:30 p.m. Students should arrive at the gym at 6:00 p.m. All graduate students will receive an email with more information in late March. 

The hooding ceremony is expected to last approximately one hour.

Cap and Gown
Caps and gowns can be purchased by visiting: https://www.buildagrad.com/husson

You will be asked to pay online, rather than paying in the store during pickup process.

The order deadline is Sunday, March 24 to order online for in-store pickup, which will go from April 29 - May 3 in store, and May 4 at the ceremony. If you need to make other arrangements to pick up your cap and gown, please contact the bookstore at bookstore@Husson.edu or (207) 941-7114

Parking
Parking has been reserved for those attending the Graduate Hooding.

Photography
For your benefit, we have made arrangements with Lifetouch, for a professional photographer to record the moment you receive your degree. The full-color proofs of these photos will be posted on the web. Information will be sent to your home address.

Social Media
A customized Snapchat filter will be available at the Cross Insurance Center during the commencement ceremony. 

There will also be customized Giphy stickers and GIFs available to add to social media posts.

Degrees and honors
At the commencement ceremony, each graduate will receive an empty degree folder. Personalized degree certificates will be mailed after the completion of full academic review. The valedictorian and salutatorian of the Class of 2024 will be announced at the ceremony.

Students who have achieved a cumulative grade point average of 3.4 or above will receive a gold honor cord to wear with their regalia. These cords will be distributed with regalia. Questions about this should be directed to your academic advisors.

Special needs
There is ample accessible seating on the concourse level of the Cross Insurance Center. The accessible seating area can be accessed by entering through the southwest entrance. 

Parking
Commencement guests will be directed to parking areas around the Cross Insurance Center. Additional parking can be found in the parking garage attached to the Hollywood Casino.

From I-95 North or South:

Take Exit 182A to I-395 East. 

Follow to Exit 3B (Main Street) 

Take a right onto Main Street 

Take a left onto Buck Street at the Third light 

Parking is to the left; Enter through the Civic Center parking lot

From Route 1A:

From Ellsworth, travel to I-395 West 

Follow to Exit 3 (Main Street). 

Take a right onto Main Street 

Take a left onto Buck Street at the second light 

Parking is to the left; Enter through the Civic Center parking lot
