Welcome to Husson University Law School

Our Mission
To educate and develop competent, ethical legal practitioners. VIDEO: Michael Mullane, Dean, Husson University Law School

Our Goals
    • Drawing upon the principles of traditional legal education to provide both a solid grounding in the core doctrines of the law and the ability to engage in objective legal analysis, and
    • Using integrated simulations and experiential learning to provide training in all essential lawyering skills, and to develop entry level competency in at least two areas of practice commonly engaged in by new lawyers;
  • Work with the bench and bar to insure that its educational program meets the needs of the legal profession and of entry level lawyers; and
  • Cultivate an appreciation of the legal profession that maximizes the sense of personal well being and career satisfaction as law students and lawyers. VIDEO: Marie Hansen, Associate Dean, Husson Division of Legal Studies

Enrollment
The enrollment range will be 25 - 50 students per class year.

Time to Complete the Program
  • Full time, post baccalaureate students: Six semesters over three academic years. First class of students to begin in the Fall 2010.
  • Part time, post baccalaureate students: Nine semesters over three calendar years. First class of part time students to begin in the summer of 2010 and would be on pace to graduate with the full time students in May of their 3rd year, allowing them to participate in the normal hiring cycle and take the July Bar Examination.
Educational and Curricula Features

  • All students are given instruction and simulation based practice in all essential lawyering skills
  • Skills and professional responsibilities taught in every semester and integrated with the doctrinal courses
  • Students will select two out of fours areas of practice frequently in which they wish to achieve entry level competency. Each of the four areas of practice are commonly engaged in by lawyers practicing in areas similar to Northern and rural Maine
  • Competencies will be achieved through required doctrinal and lawyering skills courses, and a simulation-based workshop focused on the specific area of practice and the clinic and extern experience
  • After completing the foregoing, students will participate in an in-house legal aid clinic or externship in each of their competencies
  • All students take a course in law office organization and management to prepare them for the business aspects of starting and maintaining a law practice
