Values

Husson's values are best expressed by our faculty.

Action

Having worked with legal professionals, I understand that the key to education at the college level is to learn how do the work hands-on. While it is imperative to have a background from text books to learn the law, in order to apply this knowledge, one must see the legal world in action. In both the Criminal Justice and Paralegal Studies Programs I find instructors that bring this philosophy to life in the classroom as I do. One has to love what they do to be ready to do a job everyday, and the exposure that students will gain from both programs will help them find that energy.

Marie Hansen B.A., J.D.
Assistant Professor
Criminal Justice/Paralegal Studies Programs

Self-Confidence

My goal in every course is for students to tap into their own abilities and unlock the power and joy that accompany the study of literature and writing. I want that awareness to stay with them beyond the course and long after college. In that sense, I've always seen English courses as not only preparing people for careers but also equipping them for life.

Gregory Winston B.A., M.A., Ph.D.
Assistant Professor
English Program

Impact

My philosophy in life is what comes around goes around. In education, it is our business to educate future teachers to be the best teachers possible. They turn around to educate the next generation of students and possibly teachers. It does not just stop there. It goes on and on in one eternal round. If I can nourish one good teacher, many young children will reap the benefit. I am confident that I am able to educate more than one good teacher at Husson University, thus hundreds and even thousands of lives will be affected.

Terry Tang B.F.A., Bed/AD., Ed.D.
Assistant Professor
Elementary Education Program

Perseverance

Tommy Lasorda said, "The difference between the impossible and the possible lies in a person's determination." So often students and prospective students entertain me with all the reasons why they can't be successful in their nursing program, e.g., "I have children to care for," "I have to work full-time," "I don't have the financial resources to pay for college," and/or "I have a husband, mother, father, sick aunt, dog to care for and the housework, too!" These words are uttered with conviction and sincerity. I usually respond to them with Tommy's words of wisdom. And I tell them the story of my own struggle to complete my bachelor's and master' programs as a single mom with two small children and three part-time jobs. One of the things I have always loved about Husson is the small class size and family atmosphere that pervades the nursing program. The faculty and my peers were instrumental in my success as an undergraduate nursing student here at Husson and I hope I provide the same support and nurturing to the students in my role as nursing faculty

Family

I feel that Husson's size works to our advantage, in that it allows for small classes, and the relationships between faculty and students are a strength of the program. It is nice to be on a campus where people know your name and there is a real sense of community and family here.

Connie Sprague B.S.N., M.S.N.
Assistant Professor
Nursing Program

Hard-Work

It's all about effort and intent. The media would have us believe that you need to be endowed with good looks, talent, intelligence, personality or some combination of the above in order to succeed. That's not true. Patient persistence will find its rewards. My classes help those who persist by fostering their abilities to assess business risks and assume legal obligations that improve the chances for success and minimize the costs of inevitable mistakes.

David Casavant B.A., M.A., J.D., C.P.A.
Assistant Professor, Administrator with faculty rank
Business Law

Laughter

Being a student is stressful. Learn to take yourself lightly, and your studies and work seriously. Remember, you can laugh or you can cry, but if you laugh, you don't have to blow your nose when you are done!

Ann Ellis B.S., M.S., C.A.S., Ed.D.
Professor
Nursing Program
