Admission Requirements

DPT/BS Kinesiology (six-year program) Applicants - Freshman Applicants Applicants applying for entry to the first year of the program must meet the following criteria:
- combined SAT I scores of 1000 for Math and Verbal sections, or 1450 for a combined Math, Verbal, and Writing sections (or ACT equivalent)
- a high school average of 85 (3.0) GPA
- two letters of recommendation
- successful completion of courses in math, biology and chemistry; Physics and trigonometry are also recommended
- a written essay addressing one of several essay prompts that are listed on the physical therapy application materials.
- and, a recommended minimum of 20 volunteer hours in at least two areas of Physical Therapy
Early application is encouraged for the pre-professional phase. The University currently accepts approximately 50 students into the first year of the program. Applications are reviewed on a continual basis. Early acceptance is offered to applicants who meet all program requirements. Click here to access the Husson Undergraduate Application form. DPT/BS Kinesiology - Transfer Student Applicants Students who have not completed a baccalaureate degree but have received undergraduate credits may apply as transfer students. Transfer students may enter in September or January of the pre-professional phase into year one, two, or three, depending on the number of credits being transferred. The number of transfer applicants selected is restricted to ensure the highest quality of education during the professional phase of the program and to facilitate clinical placement of all students. DPT (3-year program) Applicants Applicants who have earned a Baccalaureate degree may apply for entry to the fourth year, or "Professional Phase" of the program, and will be considered in late spring after the number of third-year students progressing to the fourth year is known. The number of available positions is limited and varies from year-to-year. Applicants must meet the following criteria: - have an undergraduate degree with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or greater
- have successfully completed the following pre-requisite courses with a minimum grade of C:
- College Algebra (3 credits)
- Introductory Statistics (3 credits)
- General Psychology (3 credits)
- Anatomy and Physiology I and II with labs (8 credits)
- Chemistry I and II with labs (8 credits)
- Physics I and II with labs (8 credits)
- Cell Biology (3 credits)
- Upper level Psychology (3 credits), such as Abnormal Psychology, or Human Growth and Development
Applicants must submit a complete application packet by May 1st, including the following:- completed Husson University graduate application
- two letters of recommendation
- a written essay addressing one of several essay prompts that are listed in the physical therapy application materials
GRE scores are required by May 30th. GRE scores will be tracked for information until 2017, and will not be used to make the admissions decision. Prospective applicants are encouraged to apply early in the event that numbers allow a few early acceptances. Graduates of baccalaureate program seeking entry into the the 3-year DPT, click here to access the Husson Graduate Admissions Application form. t-DPT (Transitional Doctor of Physical Therapy) Applicants Applicants to the Transitional Doctor of Physical Therapy Program must meet the following admission requirements: - Graduation from Husson with a Master of Science in Physical Therapy degree between 2000 and 2008
- Evidence of current physical therapy license to practice within the United States
- Completed Husson University graduate application
- Resume of work and continuing education experiences

All candidates should be aware that, following graduation from the Husson University Physical Therapy Program, the State of Maine may not issue a physical therapist license to a person with a prior conviction of a felony (Class A, B or C crime), which is defined as a crime that is punishable by one year or more of imprisonment (Maine Physical Therapist Practice Act, Chapter 45-A, 32 ยง 3117-A).
